Project Cost: $420m

Time frame: 2015 – 2017

The Gold Coast Light Rail extension needed to be completed in time for the 2018 Commonwealth games. The 7.3 km extension would run from Gold Coast Hospital to Helensvale QR Station, including dual rail track with a combination of ballasted and embedded rail track, earthworks, bridges, associated roadworks, four stations, noise walls, bike paths, power, signalling and communications and urban landscaping.

Project Support was directly engaged to provide Independent Estimator services for the Reference Design and an update prior to tender documents going to market. In addition, Project Support undertook a constructability review and developed a construction program for the works to give confidence to GoldLinQ that the project could be delivered prior to the Commonwealth Games.

Project Support provided GoldLinQ with certainty of the cost outcome from the Reference design budget estimate, through the evaluation and to the final completion cost.

The cost plan was very close to the final tendered values and the Tenderers’ programs. The final completion price was within 1% of our Base Estimate and was opened prior to the Commonwealth Games. We ensured GoldlinQ had the best information to select the right contractor and get the best value out of the project.

When you need certainty and Independent Advice

“I have used Project Support for cost, risk and time advice on many projects I’ve been associated with over the years. They continually get it right and proved that again for the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 2, giving us confidence in both cost and time to meet the challenge of delivery prior to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.”
